Graeme Phillips Rose review

PDFPrintE-mail

Sunday Tasmanian 28th Nov 2010

"An attractive salmon-pink blush, the nose fairly reserved before strawberry and spiced cherry flavours show on a lightweight palate pleasingly balanced and freshened by good, cleansing acid and running to a bright, crisp and nicely dry finish".

Winsor Dobbin Rose review

Examiner newspaper - 8/12/2010

There has been a swing away from sweet, fairy floss styles of Rose towards more savoury, textural styles that are a much better match for food. This Tasmanian offering is very much made in the new wave - its fresh and spicy with a long, nicely balanced dry finish, but t also offers enough fruitiness (fresh strwberries, red cherries and nutmeg) to make it appealing to those who do not like their pinks ultra-dry. Chill and enjoy on a warm afternoon.

Winsor Dobbin Pinot Gris Review

Examiner 10-11-2010

Another of the new wave of impressive Pinot Gris from Tassie - and a splendid wine for summer. Derwent Estate wines have a purity and linearity to them and this has a familiar freshness and liveliness to it. It offers hints of white stone fruit flavours and a lusciousness on the palate that, while dry, has tantalising textural qualities that are certainly more on the Alsace style of the PG spectrum.

The winner this year - Villa Maria was the only wine to outscore the Derwent Estate in its class.

From The Region

During four days in Tasmania we tasted several hundred wines: the first two in the Southern Tasmania regional showcase set the scene for what was to come. Pat and Andrew Hanigan’s Derwent Estate has a prime 10ha north facing vineyard overlooking the Derwent River, with the wines made by Julian Alcorso at Winemaking Tasmania.

The 2006 Riesling (93 points, $22) has developed beautifully over the past 12 months, with apple and lime juice flavours swelling on the mid-palate before a cleansing thrust of acidity on the finish.  The 2006 Reserve Pinot Noir (94 Points, $35) has great colour, with deliciously pure and fine plum and black cherry fruit and a well balanced finish.

“OUTSTANDING”

PDFPrintE-mail

2004 Riesling “Who slipped the Rheingau in here?” one of our panel exclaimed. He wasn’t far short of the mark in style terms. This is an exciting cool area riesling with faint citrus peel overtones sometimes encountered in Rhein wines.  The palate is steely and gorgeous - a landmark Australian Riesling. Excellent Value
